Cookie Clicker is the idle game that made the genre famous. You start by clicking a giant cookie, then spend the cookies you bake on buildings such as cursors, grandmas, farms and mines that produce cookies for you every second. Numbers grow quickly, and before long the game is about choosing what to buy next rather than clicking.
Along the way you unlock upgrades, achievements and special events like golden cookies. Once you have baked enough you can ascend: reset your bakery in exchange for heavenly chips that permanently boost every future run. There is no fixed ending, so it works both as a five-minute distraction and as a long-term project.

How to play Cookie Clicker
- Click the cookie until you can afford your first Cursor, then buy it.
- Keep buying buildings as soon as you can afford them. Early on, cursors and grandmas give a strong return.
- Buy upgrades when they appear in the store: they multiply what your buildings and your clicks produce.
- Click every golden cookie you see.
- When the heavenly chips you would gain are worth restarting for, ascend and begin the next, faster run.

Tips for Cookie Clicker
- Buildings first, clicking second. After the first few minutes, spending every cookie you earn beats clicking by hand.
- Never ignore a golden cookie. Their effects can stack, so a frenzy and a click frenzy at the same time can be worth minutes of production.
- Hover over upgrades in the store to read what they do and what they cost, then pick the ones that boost your strongest building.
- Back up your progress: open Options and use Export save, then keep the text somewhere safe in case your browser data is cleared.
- A common rule of thumb is to ascend when the heavenly chips you would earn add roughly 10% or more to your production.
